After multiple CMJ Campaigns for other independent labels, I leveraged the ISP brand to promote our music and center of influence
The first two releases were vinyl 7 inch records printed pink and gray with black and white labels and sleeves. Elevado’s two singles benefited with reviews in Stomp and Stammer and across the blogosphere. The second, a split between Aviator and Parade, featured two fantastic songs one of which I produced a video for using an old cartoon from the 50’s.
After bringing an easter basket to 88.5’s studio, hosting a slot on Channel Z’s television show, a Halloween Special, ISP records began to get airplay. We advertised in Paste Magazine, Magnet and CMJ which garnered some attention and inclusion on a couple of compilations – soon reports indicated we were played on about 100 stations.
I frequented Wuxtry, Criminal and SchoolKids records where sales were happening and the ISP indie label was suddenly relevant. Several bands asked to be on ISP so I created a contest which the Atlanta Journal covered to my delight.
Tour Bus Drag Race went viral on YouTube as I shot and produced a three-part series of two tour buses racing around Cabbagetown and Little 5 Points. The AJC reported that the winner of the race would get an ISP record deal and we had our biggest crowd to date at the Earl.
ISP Music rereleased Elevado’s back catalogue and got its logo on a handful of local releases. By 2008 I had shot and released over 30 videos on the ISP VLOG, later repurposed to ISP’s YouTube page, and directed promotional efforts for the OtherSound Music Festival and East Atlanta Strut.
By 2010 ISP had been working with PINE Magazine for a couple of years and through the help of others, that brand had earned a lot of traction by weekly shows at the Star bar where the OtherSound was eventually to call home. However, by then touring was over and the ISP label was history.
