“Katie Couric is the consummate newscaster, at ease with presidents and prime ministers, with Hollywood celebrities and intellectual leaders. Her wide-ranging experience as a broadcaster is a perfect match for the Peabodys,” said Horace Newcomb, director of the Peabody Awards Program at the University of Georgia.
“Confronting Colon Cancer,” was praised by the Peabody Board as “exceptional public service journalism that delivers its message in an immensely public forum with dignity, clarity and persuasiveness.”
The Peabody Awards, considered among the most prestigious and selective prizes in electronic media, recognize excellence and meritorious work by radio and television stations, networks, webcasters, producing organizations and individuals.
The entry deadline for programs aired in 2003 is Thursday, January 15, 2004. Winners will be announced in April by the 15-member Peabody Board, a distinguished panel of television critics, industry practitioners and experts in culture and the arts.
The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at UGA administers the Peabody Awards, as it has since the program’s inception in 1940.
